What will you learn on our graduate programme?

We develop our own-brand business applications – including the UK’s leading fire and rescue management system – so you’ll get to know these products in detail. You’ll also gain knowledge across key technical areas of the IG business, including support, testing, quality assurance and development, helping you build a complete understanding of the software development lifecycle.

Plus, you’ll work towards Microsoft professional qualifications, study e-learning programmes, participate in presentations, and be mentored by some of the best tech brains in the business.

When your training is complete, you’ll join one of our tech teams as a permanent team member, based on your goals and aptitudes.

Tech and methods we work with

All teams

All our teams work within Agile/Scrum and collaborate closely across departments.

We utilise our own workflow and HelpDesk software, Microsoft DevOps, Microsoft 365 and Teams to deliver projects collaboratively with customers.

Development teams

Tech snapshot: Visual Studio, .NET, C#, SQL Server, Azure, ASP.Net, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, Microservices architecture, Xamarin, .NET Core, Docker, Git and LUIS Cognitive Services.

Infrastructure and QA teams

Tech snapshot: Azure IaaS/PaaS, Windows Server/Desktop, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, Hyper-V, SQL Server, and Load Balancing/Clustering.

Graduate career streams

Here’s a brief insight into what our teams focus on and what may best fit your talents:

Development

Work with some of the best tech brains in the business, using the latest Microsoft tools and tech, to develop and enhance our FireWatch, Prevent + Protect and FloSuite software solutions, used by leading emergency and professional services clients.

DevOps

Combine your development and IT infrastructure management skills, unite team members across dev and IT ops, and help IG build better products much faster – ensuring our emergency and professional service clients can work safely and efficiently.

Testing

Hone your technical skills and talent to ensure our mission-critical software never falls below the stringent standards of our emergency and professional services clients, using the latest Microsoft tools and tech for manual and automated test management.

Customer Support/Projects

Play a crucial, customer-facing part in our tech team, supporting our sophisticated internal and client systems, and helping to implement our industry-leading business software applications.

Entry requirements

You should already have achieved – or be on course to achieve in 2023 – an honours degree in computing science, software development or systems & networking (or similar/another computing-related discipline) from a leading university to a minimum of 2:1.

(If you are applying as a Masters student, you should meet the same undergraduate entry requirements).

You should have 5 strong ‘Highers’ or 3 strong ‘A Levels’ (or equivalent) at A/B grades, including Maths.

Excellent written and spoken English is essential.

‘Nice to have’

Relevant industry internship/placement experience, other commercial experience or volunteering roles. ‘Higher’/’A-level’/’Advanced Higher’ Computing Science is desirable.
